Melanie Miller, MS

Melanie Miller, M.S. (she/her/hers) is a fourth-year doctoral student in Counseling Psychology. She graduated from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville in 2015 with a double B.A. in Psychology and Child and Family Studies with a minor in Philosophy. She then received her Master’s in Counseling Psychology from the UK in 2020.  In addition to undergraduate engineering students’ mental health, Melanie focuses on health equity and access of affirming care for marginalized groups. She researches the impacts of identity on help-seeking, the impact of healthcare providers’ cultural competency in healthcare, cultural competency training for healthcare providers, how identity impacts healthcare disparities and inequities, and marginalized peoples’ educational/career development.

 

Clinically, Melanie has experience working with first-generation college students, undergraduate students wanting to learn academic success strategies, career counseling across the lifespan, UKY students experiencing mental health distress, and people with chronic health issues.

She is honored to work in the RIEF project in the hopes of using her research and clinical skills to help expand accessible mental health support for engineering students.
